ST–NUS HELIX Corporate Lab on Hardware for Embodied Low power Intelligent Xceleration

Launched on 24 August 2026, the STMicroelectronics-NUS HELIX Corporate Lab is a research center focusing on generative and embodied AI at the edge. The HELIX Corp Lab at NUS is led by Prof. Massimo Alioto from the Green IC research group (www.green-ic.org), and design/technology leaders from STMicroelectronics. Research pillars are led by Prof. Trevor Carlson, Prof. Haizhou Li and Prof. Xinchao Wang. The Corp Lab is hosted at the NUS College of Design and Engineering.

The center core mission is to enable and accelerate the decentralization of AI, moving intelligence from datacenters to the physical world. The latter is being fueled by new and highly-stringent requirements on latency, availability, energy sustainability (efficiency) and data security/privacy (locality).

The HELIX Corp Lab spans AI models and algorithms, accelerator architectures, on-chip memory hierarchies, circuits, chip integration and silicon technologies. It concentrates on on-chip memory-rich and memory-centric architectures to tackle today’s dominant energy contribution: moving data within- and off-chip.

The synergy of NUS and STMicroelectronics in the space of Gen/embodied AI at the edge interweaves the world-renowned leadership of NUS in the area of energy-efficient AI systems, and the industry-leading FD-SOI fabrication technology along with edge system design expertise. This accelerates the research and translation cycle from pathfinding to idea conception and industrial-grade demonstration.

Innovating disruptively, at scale.
